ETHos Chili Pod, Two Events and a new Steward!
MetaCartel’s ETHos Chili Pod is seeing some of the successes to their focused and intentional grant funding, with a new steward and two more IRL Ethereum events, one focused on education for businesses using blockchain and another focused on bridging communities during a hackathon.
The stewards continue to demonstrate commitment to improvement, by iterating based on feedback from grant recipients, and to mentorship, by providing a post event advisory conversation for grant recipients.
Welcome new ETHos steward, Rebecca Dai
After awarding a grant to the Notfellows community for EthIndia hackathon 2022, the stewards had the opportunity to share conversations with Rebecca Dai, lead coordinator for the event.
Her demonstrated success in coordinating hacker houses for multiple hackathons, as well as her meaningful feedback about the Notfellows experience with ETHos Chili Pod, motivated the ETHos stewards to invite Rebecca to join their team and support the ETHos efforts to surface and review applications for funding values-aligned Ethereum events and provide mentorship to grant recipients.
Rebecca is a serial startup operator who founded the Notfellows community. She believes in the power of being in the same physical space and facilitating interpersonal relationships. While this is challenging in crypto, with its global communities, hacker houses can help.
The ETHos Chili Pod celebrates Rebecca’s acceptance of her new steward role.
Blockchain and Business
On January 28, 2023, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, in Lagos, Nigeria, 135 developers, creatives and entrepreneurs gathered for a full day of education and conversations about building a sustainable and profitable business, while leveraging blockchain solutions.
When Adetunji Michael first conceived of the idea, he intended to invite about a dozen friends into his home for focused conversations. However, the response was so overwhelming that the event grew into what was called Blockchain and Business.
The talks highlighted the need to build products that are useful and solve problems, as well as validated the ideation process and the persistence of building. They also discussed developer relationships, like how to stay connected with developers and manage your product.
There was also focus on discussing regulations. Michael has seen startups shut down due to Nigeria’s Central Bank’s policies. At Blockchain and Business, attendees heard about what policies they should be aware of before building.
Raid Guild & Nonce hack
Raid Guild is a global collective of freelance Web3 developers and designers. Nonce is a hacker village in Seoul, South Korea. The intention for this event was to bridge East and West by bringing hackers, from all over the world, together to collaborate, build and make friends at EthDenver 2023. Mentors, supporters and collaborators came from MetaCartel, Raid Guild, Nonce, EthDenver, Keyp, MetaCartel Ventures and DAOhaus.
Highlights of their time in Denver was The Merge dinner, held at the Nonce hacker house, and an all night hacking session, with mentors and workshops, at the Keyp hacker house.
Bonds began to form between the communities and 13 hackathon projects were submitted to the EthDenver hackathon. Some of these projects received bounty awards and some of the hackers had never participated in a hackathon before this event.
ETHos grant recipients, Web3Bridge and MetaFest, are expected to wow us later this year!
If you, or your community, is coordinating an IRL event that you feel the ETHos Chili Pod would want to support, please submit a proposal at https://www.metacartel.org/ethos
